Art objects age. The canvas gets old and deformed, the colors
lose luster, varnish becomes yellow… The painting can also fall
of the wall and get damaged.
That’s when a Restorer comes in to the picture.

Conservation and restoration of paintings is a demanding
technological process that requires training, experience and
knowledge of materials. Special equipment is also needed to
investigate and solve certain problems.

Conservator Irina Batalow was educated in Moscow with a focus
on preservation of icons and oil paintings on various surfaces
and has many years of experience working in museums in
Moscow. Irina has also a degree in art history from Moscow
University.

ICOM (The International Council of Museums).

Most common problems that are usually solved in the studio:

- Consolidation of the paint layer
- “Welding” of rips and holes in the canvas
- Setup of the deformed sheet
- Strengthening of worn and torn edges
- Cleaning of the surface
- Removal of discolored varnish and old retouching
- Caulking and retouching of injuries
- Affixing accession of new protective varnish
